Recipe is from Gourmet Magazine (Nov. 1990). If you don't like dates or pecans you can substitute for other nuts and dried fruit (eg. cranberries and walnuts). The original recipe calls for 1/4 c. more sugar which is too sweet for my taste. It's a great holiday recipe. -- posted by blucoat

This is the most amazing tasting Wassail. It's perfect for a holiday party or a cold winter night. Its like drinking hot apple pie that warms your tummy and lifts your spirits. Although its a big undertaking to cook, you wont be disappointed, especially when everyone is complimenting you on making something that tastes so delicious. Make sure you serve it warm.
