Sarmale are tradditional Romanian cabbage rolls that are always served at weddings and during Christmas, as well as other occasions or for no occasion at all. My Romanian friend, Carmen, gave me this family recipe that she altered slighty since becoming vegetarian. It can be a lot of work and a little complicated as you first try rolling/stuffing the cabbage leaves, but after a little practice you'll get it and the results are fantastic! -- posted by Enjolinfam read more »

This is one of my experimental recipes. And it was definately a learning experience. I learned that soaking white beans and chickpeas with black beans will dye them purple. I may use that knowledge later for dying Easter eggs, haha. It's kind of inspired by an Elzekaria recipe I love, which is cabbage and white beans in a soup. -- posted by Chef #683272 read more »

This came from 'The Old-Fashioned Cookbook by Jan McBride Carlton. Delicious, even to those who think they don't like cabbage. This recipe calls for American cheese, I used Swiss instead, but the remainder of the recipe I kept the same. -- posted by cricketbird read more »
