Back in the days, I hand wrote recipes I liked and often tossed the rest of the book. Even when I catered, I wrote each recipe by hand - crazy I know. Well, I am slowly going through a few old boxes and found this last night. I love lamb and Greek flavors and this just makes a great main dish salad.
This is a old throw back recipe, re-done, but it can't get simpler. I don't often use soup in my recipes, but I really happen to like this one. Paired with smoky ham, white wine and smoky gouda; or even a smoky mozzarella or smoky white cheddar will work. This combination of the smoky ham and cheese is what really makes this dish. To serve, try a wild white rice blend or even just white rice. I like to add some fresh scallions to finish off the rice. -- posted by SarasotaCook

142 Vote(s)

The herbs and blossoms on this fish not only look spectacular but they also add a summery flavor to the light broth and peas beneath the fish. At Jesse's Flea St. Cafe, she serves it over buttermilk mashed potatoes, which is heavenly. Substitute salmon or any mild, firm fish fillet for the halibut. Whenever possible, try to buy line-caught and wild fish. From the book "Simply Organic" by Jesse Cool. -- posted by BecR

167 Vote(s)

My mum used to make these for us when we were kids, everyone loved them. All our friends used to hang around when it was baking day to see what they could get for a treat. These are great for the kids to make as there is no cooking, mind you most of the mix gets eaten before they get to the paper cases. You can make these with cocoa rather than the drinking chocolate for a more adult taste, but the kids love the drinking chocolate. -- posted by Tea Jenny

44 Vote(s)

A piece of ham, a ham hock, or bacon can be added to the beans, but they are delicious without meat. If the beans need thickening, mash a cupful and put them back in the saucepan. To make frijoles refritos (refried beans), mash all of the beans by hand or in a processor and fry them in vegetable oil in small batches.Read more at Suite101: Anasazi Beans: Gift from the Cliff Dwellers http://mexican-food.suite101.com/article.cfm/anasazi_beans#ixzz0his2bnIq -- posted by mama's kitchen

88 Vote(s)
